46% × 70cl × SURREY

Only recently released (27th July 2022), the first whiskey from the well-established gin distillery displays an absolutely impeccable alchemy between wood and spirit; marrying together domestic spirit with State-side Tennessee Rye in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry combinations to create a full-belter of a dram at only 3 years old. Extraordinary in every possible way.

COLOR

Golden barley.

BODY

Thin with fast-moving legs.

NOSE

A classic orchard fruit character with lashings of warm caramel, giving way to red fruits and currants. Everything on display here is fully volume, but inviting. One note never overpowers the other, each take their turn like a player in the orchestra, filling out any momentary pauses with quiet lappings of base notes and filling the air with bravura all at the same time.

PALATE

Full-bodied and tantalising. Orchard fruits continue on the palate with softness. A slight hint of broken milk chocolate comes through. Cracked black pepper soon follows. This is Tchaikovsky in his 1812 Overture. Absolutely magnificent.

FINISH

Fruits and spice notes recede slowly, lending to that satisfyingly dry woody finish from an ex-bourbon maturation. No gooseberries or citric tang present. Moreish, juicy and well-rounded. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a NAS which doesn’t display any sign of hotness. Silent Pool have nailed this one, and it will be exciting to see what their next batch of 6 Year brings.

SCORE: 5/5
